Helen M. (Markus) McElroy, 89, wife of the late Francis X. "Mac" McElroy, of East Coventry, formerly Phoenixville, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015 in the Manatawny Manor.
Born in Cedar Hollow, Tredyffrin Township, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Godri) Markus. Helen's family relocated and she was raised in Phoenixville from the time she was three years old.
Helen was a graduate of Phoenixville High School and was employed as a medical secretary at the Valley Forge Army Hospital during the 1940's until 1952. She spent most of her life as a homemaker as her children were very fortunate to have her home to raise them. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. McElroy liked baking and loved dancing at The Varsity Club in Phoenixville, where she met her husband. She enjoyed family get togethers and especially loved Fourth of July parties. She was known as "a real firecracker" since she was born on the Fourth of July.
Mrs. McElroy is survived by two daughters, Karen A. Sechler, of Emmaus and Kathleen M. Durante, of Emmaus; two sons, Kevin E. McElroy, of Phoenixville and Brian F. McElroy, of Elizabethtown; and four grandsons, Colin Sechler, Keenan Sechler, Kennymac Durante and Konnor Durante. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Frank "Jake" Markus, Jr.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass at St. Ann R.C. Church, Main Street at Third Avenue, Phoenixville, on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 10:30 am. Officiating will be the Rev. John J. Newns. Interment will be follow in St. Ann Cemetery. Friends will be received from 9:15 am - 10:15 am Saturday at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's name to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.
