Helena (Jankowski) Gac, loving wife of the late Henry Gac, of Chester Springs PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 28, 2020 at Spring Mill. Born on July 21, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Józef and Julia Jankowski.

Born in a Polish community in the former Soviet Union, Helena experienced the terror of Communism and horrors of war during her early years. After the war, her family escaped to German refugee camps, eventually emigrating to the United States, where she became a citizen. Despite the horrors she witnessed and being driven into abject poverty by the war, she never lost her faith, optimism, and warmth, living briefly in Detroit before meeting Henry and settling in Wilmington, Delaware.

Helena was also a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a dear friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She took special pleasure in raising her children and helping to raise three of her grandchildren. Helena was a devoted caretaker to her mother and to her husband in their later years. She was an avid and insightful investor. She also dedicated her time to helping others, including volunteering as a math tutor at St. Marks High School in Wilmington. Helena loved to cook for her family, whom she loved and cherished.

Helena is survived by her four loving children, Gregory Gac, husband of Catherine, Romuald Gac, husband of Linda, Vincent Gac, husband of Annette, and Christine Nowlan, wife of Thomas. She is also survived by her nine loving grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and loving husband, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Albert and Walter Jankowski.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday February 3, 2020, from 8:30AM to 9:45AM at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, 100 Fellowship Rd, Chester Springs, PA 19425.
