Hugh Barclay Cowan, 72, of Paoli, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008, in his residence.? He was the husband of Gretchen (Eisenhart) Cowan.? Born in Chicago, IL, he was a son of the late Donald Ross Grant Cowan and Helen Merle (Prentice) Cowan.?
Mr. Cowan was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School in Michigan, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he belonged to the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, and the University of Michigan, where he received his M.B.A..? He served in the?United States Navy.? He was the owner of the former Cowan Cadillac-GMC in Kimberton.? He was a member of the Paoli Presbyterian Church, the current President of the Rotary Club of Phoenixville, past secretary and board member of the Phoenixville YMCA.? ?Mr. Cowan enjoyed spending time with his family, boating and water skiing,? and spending time at his summer cottage in Canada.?
In addition to his wife of 19 years, Mr. Cowan is survived by daughter Karen M., wife of Mark Cervellero of Royersford, sons, Scott B., husband of Krista Cowan of Phoenixville, Ross M., husband of Erin Cowan of Philadelphia, and Christopher R., husband of Christine Sellers of Schwenksville, sister Anne Leverich of Charlevoix, Mich., brothers, William Cowan of Ossining, New York and D. Ross Cowan of Pinckney, Mich., grandchildren, Ryan, Molly, Tyler, and Sophie, and several nieces and nephews.?
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial services at the Paoli Presbyterian Church, 225 S. Valley Road, Paoli, PA, on Friday, May 23, 2008, at 2 PM.? Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. James A. Churchill.? Family will receive friends from 1-2 PM at the Church.?
