J. Richard Shaner, age 76, husband of Ruth E. (Wagner) Shaner and the late Elizabeth (Kronmuller) Shaner, of Snyder Avenue, Phoenixville, PA died on Friday morning, January 30, 2009. Born in Fricks Locks, PA, he was a son of the late Preston S. and Margaret (Miller) Shaner. Mr. Shaner was a graduate of the Downingtown High School. He owned and operated the Richard Shaner Excavating Company in Phoenixville for many years. He was a member of the Parker Ford Church of the Brethren. Mr. Shaner was an avid outdoorsmen, and enjoyed fishing and hunting in his mountain house in Centre County.

In addition to his wife of 37 years, Mr. Shaner is survived by 13 children; Betty Lou, wife of George Quay, Rick, husband of Robin Shaner, Sonia, wife of Frank Wasco, Janice Yonkoske, Preston Shaner, Lydia Tallarico, Pat Callow, Gail Bell, Joni Craner-Robertson, partner of Sue Robertson, John, husband of Missy Craner, Sharon, wife of Stephen Doms, Robin, wife of David Bortz, Brenda, wife of John Gallo, two sisters; Barbara Reinert, Joan Mayers, one brother; David Shaner, eighteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Shaner was pre-deceased by seven brothers and sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at the Cattermole - Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA on Wednesday morning, February 4, 2009 at 10AM. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert M. Latshaw. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Spring City, PA. Friends will be received Tuesday evening from 7-8:30PM or Wednesday from 9-10AM at the funeral home.
