James F. "Doc" Thompson, Jr., age 90, husband of the late Mary E. (Taylor) Thompson, of Spring City, PA died Thursday morning, May 9th, 2013 in the Phoenixville Hospital. Born in Limerick, PA, he was a son of the late James F. Thompson, Sr., and the late D. Marie (Nyce) Thompson. He was a 1941 graduate of the Spring City High School, where he was a member of the school football team and the "Shack Gang". A veteran, he served for the U. S. Navy during World War II. Upon returning home from the Navy, Mr. Thompson attended several universities and colleges. He received his veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He owned his own veterinarian practice for many years in the Chester County area. He volunteered for many years as a fireman for the Ridge Fire Company. He was a member and past consistory member of the Brownback's United Church of Christ. He also attended the Harmonyville Church of the Brethren. Mr. Thompson also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and enjoyed several family vacations to the Sand Lake in Ontario, Canada. He cherished the relationships he made with many neighboring farmers over the years.

Mr. Thompson is survived by four daughters: Diane B. Murray, of Spring City; Elizabeth A. "Libby", wife of Gene Bechtel, of Pottstown; Jill L., wife of Robert Keeley, of Spring City; Mary "Jane", wife of Greg Marks, of MD; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by one sister: Jean Yeager; one brother: Robert Thompson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Harmonyville Church of the Brethren, 2037 Harmonyville Road, Pottstown, PA 19465 on Monday, May 13th, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be the Rev. John C. Kolle. Burial will be in the Brownback's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Spring City, PA. Friends will be received from 9:45 - 10:45 AM, Monday morning at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the Harmonyville Church of the Brethren at the above address or to the Visiting Angels of Pottstown, 100 Porter Road, Suite 112, Pottstown, PA 19464.
