Obituary

James Barry Ottinger, age 75, of Elverson, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026. Born on April 3, 1951, in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, Jim was the son of the late Elaine (Slotter) Ottinger and Roland Ottinger. He was the devoted husband of Susan Ottinger, who preceded him in death.

A 1969 graduate of Pennridge High School in Perkasie, Jim devoted his life to his family, his faith, and his community. He spent most of his career with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), serving in a variety of roles throughout his many years there.

Jim enjoyed gardening, traveling, and exploring many of the National Parks across the United States. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and especially enjoyed being a father and grandfather.

His faith, community, and service to others were also important parts of his life. Jim was always willing to step in and lend a hand, generously volunteering his time to many organizations and causes throughout the years. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Knauertown from 1986 to 2007 and again from 2014 until his passing, where he remained an active and dedicated member of the church community. During the years he lived in Alabama, from 2007 to 2014, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dothan. Jim was also a veteran of the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Jim is survived by his children, Gregory J. (Deena) Ottinger of Brentwood, Tennessee; Derek J. (Elizabeth) Ottinger of West Chester, Pennsylvania; and Lynette S. Ottinger of Morgantown, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Nathaniel, Connor, Kiera, Grace, and CJ; and his siblings, Rick Ottinger (Terry), Kathy Ottinger, and Charles Ottinger (Kim). He also remained very close with Susan's family, the Crouthamels, and treasured the many years and memories they shared together.

In addition to his wife, Susan, Jim was preceded in death by his grandson, Nicholas Ottinger.
