James R. "Rick" Shaner Jr., age 72, beloved husband of Robin M. Shaner of Spring City, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 16, 1954, in Phoenixville, PA, he was the son of the late J. Richard and Elizabeth L. (Kronmuller) Shaner.

Rick was a graduate of Northern Chester County Technical School in Phoenixville. He went on to build a long and dedicated career as a heavy equipment operator, retiring after more than 40 years of service. He was also a faithful member of Parker Ford Church.

A true outdoorsman, Rick had a lifelong love of hunting and fishing. Some of his favorite memories were made outdoors with his grandchildren, whom he loved taking along on his adventures. He especially enjoyed spending time at his family's cabin in Centre County and looked forward each year to the annual Yankee Station float trip.

Rick also cherished the friendships he made throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time at American Legion Post 482 in Phoenixville, where he gathered with lifelong friends and shared many good times.

In addition to his wife, Rick is survived by his two children, Zachary, husband of Terra Shaner, and Victoria Hunter; two step-children, Benjamin Etzler and Jaime, wife of Steve Varisano; four grandchildren, Greyson Varisano, Wyatt Shaner, Emery Shaner, and Elijah Hunter; his siblings, Betty, wife of George Quay, Sonia, wife of Frank Wasco, Janice Yonkoske, and Lydia Tallerico; seven step-siblings; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Preston Shaner.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rick's memorial service at Parker Ford Church, 20 Rinehart Road, Pottstown, PA, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Pastor Dave Hakes will officiate. Burial will be held privately. Friends will be received from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday morning at the church.
