Joan M. (Smoyer) Costa, 76, of Gilbertsville, formerly Pottstown, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born in Pottstown, she was a daughter of the late Hazel (Rohrbach) and Benjamin Smoyer Sr.

Mrs. Costa was a 1954 graduate of Pottstown High School and was a member of the Linfield United Church of Christ. She loved sewing and quilting, andhad created many patchwork blankets for family and friends. She was loved by everyone she knew, especially her family.

Mrs. Costa is survived by her children, Lu Ann, wife of Richard Van Remmen, of Florida, Carol, wife of Michael Barish, of Louisiana, Robin Garner, of Pottstown, Marybeth, wife of Gregory Leh, of Gilbertsville, Kimberly, wife of Barry Brown, of Pottstown, and Lawrence Jr., husband of Shannon Costa, of Quarryville, sister, Nancy Swavely, of Royersford, fifteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Benjamin Smoyer Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan’s funeral service at the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, on Monday, September 23, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Ruth Chartier officiating. Interment will follow in the Limerick Garden of Memories. Friends may call from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
