Joan E. (Haines) Stewart, 81, wife of William J. Stewart, of Phoenixville, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019 in her residence. Born on December 26, 1937 in Coatesville, she was a daughter of the late Inez (Quinn) and Charles Haines.
Mrs. Stewart had been employed at Western Union Telegraph on Gay Street in Phoenixville, then at the Valley Forge Army Hospital, followed by The Evening Phoenix and finally spent 25 years employed as a crossing guard, mostly at Third Avenue & Gay Street, in Phoenixville, where she met many children over the years.
She loved to travel and camp, especially enjoying winters in Florida, and sightseeing with her husband throughout Alaska and National Parks in the Western United States. She enjoyed Sudoku and sitting and watching the birds among the four feeders in her backyard.
Joan specialized in brewing homemade iced tea, was famous for her filled cabbage and made thousands of homemade cookies around the holidays.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Stewart is survived by her children: Lynne M., wife of David Geist, of Douglassville and Patrick J., husband of Theresa Stewart, of Phoenixville; eight grandchildren: Patrick Stewart, James Stewart, Thomas Stewart, Alex Stewart, Theresa Stewart, Jessica Wilson, Samantha Geist and Melissa Geist; four great-grandchildren: Kaitlynn Sunderland, Lindsey Sunderland, Sawyer Seewagen and Patrick Stewart; and siblings: George Haines, of Limerick and Rose Bruch, of North Coventry. She was preceded in death by a sister: Barbara Vance.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at St. Ann Church, Main Street at Third Avenue, Phoenixville, on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 11:00 am. Officiating will be the Rev. John J. Newns. Interment will follow in the St. Ann Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7:00 - 8:30 pm Tuesday evening at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., Main Street at Fifth Avenue, Phoenixville and from 10:00 - 10:45 am Wednesday morning at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to the Seasons Hospice Foundation, 2200 Renaissance Blvd, Suite 110, King of Prussia, PA 19406.
