Joanne (Campbell) “Jo” Brown, age 89, wife of the late Dr. Frank E. Brown Jr., M.D., of Phoenixville, PA, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2014 in the Paoli Hospital, following a short and unexpected illness. Born in Phoenixville, she was a daughter of the late Leon Willman and Rachel Marlin (Hallowell) Campbell.

Joanne was a 1943 graduate of Phoenixville High School and a 1946 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University. She held a medical technology internship at the Philadelphia General Hospital, prior to being employed at the University of Pennsylvania as a laboratory technician from 1947 to 1950. Mrs. Brown was a volunteer at the Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area, and was a member of the Schuylkill Township Historical Commission. She was an avid golfer, involved in a variety of local quilt clubs, and enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, and quilting, for which she won numerous awards. She was also a skillful bridge player.

Joanne met her husband “Bud” Brown at Penn State, and they were married in 1948. She is survived by four children, Miriam L., wife of Daniel Tompkins of Baltimore, OH; Scott E. Brown, husband of Linda Cornwell of Downingtown; Robert E. Brown of Philadelphia; and Peter C. Brown of Phoenixville; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Theodore E. Campbell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at the First Presbyterian Church of Phoenixville, 145 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Officiating will be the Rev. Doug Hagler. Burial will follow in the Morris Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Church from 9:00-10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area, 204 Church Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460.
