John W. "Jack" Duke, age 89, husband of Uldene M. (Mongold) Duke, of Phoenixville, PA passed away early Monday morning, May 19, 2014 in Phoenixville Hospital, Phoenixville, PA. Born in Homestead, PA, he was a son of the late Raymond A. and Gertrude (Whittington) Duke. A veteran, he enlisted in 1943, serving as a Medic in the US Army, stationed at Valley Forge Army Hospital. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he served as a Sergeant Major in the Army Reserves. After the closure of the Army Hospital, he worked at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station, retiring in 1984. He also worked at Rothwell's Office Machines in West Chester. He enjoyed reading historical novels and listening to Pittsburg Pirates and Steelers games. He was a member of the American Legion for 27 years. He was deeply devoted to his family and friends
Mr. Duke is survived by two daughters: Kathleen Duke, of Oaks, PA; Mary Jane, wife of Cliff Webb, of Perkiomenville, PA; one step-daughter: Linda Landis, of Phoenixville, PA; one step-Son: Larry, husband of Debbie Landis, of Howell, NJ; one brother: Raymond, husband of Adrienne Duke, of Pittsburgh, PA; five grandchildren: Alyssa Webb, Alexa Webb, Ashlee Landis, Matthew Landis, Taylor Landis; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Duke was pre-deceased by one brother: Russell Duke.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 355 St. John's Circle, Phoenixville, PA on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 11:00AM. Officiating will be the Rev. Thomas T. Kochenderfer. Burial will be in the Morris Cemetery, Phoenixville, PA. Friends will be received from 9:00 - 10:30AM Saturday morning at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the St. John's Memorial Wreath Fund at the address above.
