Obituary

John Ray Edleman, age 80, husband of Mildred D. (Sharp) Edleman, of Royersford, PA, died Sunday evening, March 15, 2009 in his home. Born in Royersford, he was a son of the late Charles E. Edleman, Sr., and Carrie (Miller) Edleman. He was president of the 1946 graduating class at Royersford High School. In high school, Mr. Edleman lettered in football, basketball and baseball. . A Veteran, Mr. Edleman served in the U.S. Navy. He then attended Ursinus College, where he played soccer, graduating in 1952. He was a member of the Royersford United Methodist Church for over 60 years and held various positions, while being an active member of the choir until this year. He was Vice President of Human Resources at Diamond Glass when he retired in 1987 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Royersford Lodge #585, Free and Accepted Masons.

Mr. Edleman was very active in the community where he lived and worked. He was a past president of the Spring-Ford School Board, and served on the board for nearly two decades. He volunteered for Project Outreach, The Royersford Area Community Chest and the American Red Cross.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, Mr. Edleman is survived by four children, Keith A., husband of Joyce (Heaps) Edleman, of Perkiomenville, Elizabeth E., wife of Bert Diemer, of Wilmington, DE, Jeff S., husband of Ginny (Hollenberg) Edleman, of Palmyra, PA, Jenifer E., wife of Mike McGonigle, of Charlton, MA; eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Edleman was pre-deceased by one sister; Leona Levan, and one brother; Charles "Bub" Edleman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at the Royersford United Methodist Church. Fourth Avenue and Church Street, Royersford, PA 19468 on Friday morning, March 20, 2009 at 11:00AM. Officiating will be the Rev. Jim McNair. Burial will be held privately in the Fernwood Cemetery, Royersford. Friends will be received from 9:30 - 10:45 AM, Friday morning at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Royersford U.M. Church, 380 Church Street, Royersford, PA 19468 or to Project Outreach, 410 Washington Street, Royersford, PA 19468.
