Obituary

John L. "Jack" Mars, 66, husband of the late Dorothy (Haines) Mars, of East Coventry, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012, in the Seasons Hospice, Phoenixville. Born in Phoenixville, he was a son of the late Mary (Scanlon) and John L. Mars Sr.

Jack was a 1964 graduate of Spring-Ford High School and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Phoenixville. He was employed as a truck driver for most of his life until his retirement in 2005. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, was a history and science buff, and enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball.

Jack is survived by a daughter, Tricia, wife of Mark Griffith, of Boyertown; two sons, Michael John Mars, of Georgia and Christopher Joseph Mars, of Florida; step-children: Mike Gross, fiancé of Maria Tucker, of Spring City; Kevin Gross and wife Lisa, of Exeter and Traci Cappel and companion James Berry, of North Coventry; two sisters: Deborah Ann Mars, of Pottstown and Barbara, wife of David Westwood, of Gilbertsville; two brothers, Martin Lee Mars and wife Joan, of Florida and Richard Mars and wife Julie, of Glenmoore and grandchildren: Tiffany, Mark Jr. and Dalton Joseph Griffith; Tov'e, Brandi, Cody John and J.D. and Christina Mars; Ashley, Josh and Joey Gross.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the First Methodist Church of Phoenixville, 865 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Mark Young officiating. Interment will follow in the Fernwood Cemetery, Royersford. Friends will be received from 9:30-11 AM at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Jack's name to the Second Chance Heart Transplant Support Group at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, by visiting www.schtsgi.com.
