John Joseph O’Brien, of West Brandywine, PA, passed on to paradise until the resurrection, by the grace of God, on February 8, 2023, at the age of 87. John was a kind, loving husband and father, known for his generosity and dedication to family.

John was born to John Leo O’Brien and Helen (Lawrence) O’Brien, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. By the time for high school, he had moved to Oxon Hill, Maryland, before studying finance at the University of Maryland. Industrious from his youth, he earned a degree, a commission in the Air Force, served as treasurer of his fraternity (Phi Sigma Kappa), and won the hand of Mary Lou Maddox during his college years.

After his service to the Air Force, John joined the General Electric corporate audit staff and went on to various financial management positions in various locations (New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Florida), over a 35-year career.

John was born again in baptism at the King of Prussia Church of Christ, and was a faithful member of the church for decades. He served with Mary Lou at King of Prussia and other local congregations as Deacon or Elder at times, where they lived, including Schenectady NY and Lakeland FL.

Retirement gave John time for things like caring for grandchildren, playing golf with friends from General Electric, and traveling with Mary Lou. They moved to Freedom Village Brandywine in 2016, and have been enjoying the friends there, playing bocce, social events and reading great books.

John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lou (Maddox) O’Brien and three children, Ann (Aaron) Lewis, John (Kim) O’Brien, and Judy (Megan) O’Brien; eight grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Come and help us celebrate John’s life on Saturday, February 18 at King of Prussia Church of Christ, 590 West Valley Forge Rd., King of Prussia, Pennsylvania 19406. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, a funeral service at 11 am, followed by a luncheon. Internment will be at 12:30 pm, Monday, February 20 at Ft.
