John A. Rooney, age 91, husband of Virginia Lee "Ginny" (Cade) Rooney, of Phoenixville, PA, died Saturday, March 24, 2018 peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Born September 8, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late John and Sarah (Brady) Rooney. He was a graduate of The University of Washington. A veteran, he served for the U.S. Navy during World War II. John worked as a Engineering Programmer for General Electric before retiring in 1990. He was a member of ASCAP and the Bryn Mawr Mainliners Chorus. He enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, and authored several books including his war memoir, an autobiography, and poetry.
In addition to his wife of 45 years, John is survived by four children, John L. (Kate) Rooney of King Of Prussia, PA, James R. (Dana) Rooney of Royersford, PA, Patrick A. (Margo) Rooney of Phoenixville, PA, Elizabeth A. Rooney of Phoenixville, PA; three grandchildren; sister, Margaret M. Jacques; brother, James T. (Dolores) Rooney, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by brother, Francis X. Rooney.
Relatives and friends are invited to Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc, 610 South Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Thursday, March 29, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:00PM. Funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00PM. Burial will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018 at 9:00AM at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road Newtown, PA.
