John F. Volk passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024. Jack, as he was known to family and friends, was born and raised in Woodbury, NJ. His childhood and young adulthood shaped him into the kind, thoughtful, hardworking, funny, patriotic, and loving man that his family and friends knew him to be. He was co-Captain of the Woodbury High School basketball team where he met lifelong friends and influential mentors. He went on to play college basketball all four years and, later in life, enjoyed sharing his love for the sport with his grandsons. As a high school senior (Class of '53), he was proud to be part of the "Year of Champions" when every girls' and boys' varsity teams won championships - never before and never again - earning their induction into the Gloucester County Hall of Fame in March of 2009. Woodbury is also where he met the love of his life, his wife Mary. South Jersey became their home, where he put himself through college at Rutgers University, they started their family, and he started his career. As a devoted son, nephew, cousin, and son-in-law, he would return to Woodbury regularly to ensure his children understood the importance of family.

In 1970, Jack was transferred to PA with the West Company. Although he spent most of his days in marketing and sales, his creativity resulted in development of a patented enhanced disposable syringe, something he was proud of. Despite a successful career, he ALWAYS said, "My family is the most important to me." He thrived on volunteerism, helping others, working in the yard of his Chester Springs home, traveling, bird carving, and entertaining family and friends. Jack was a long-time member of St Andrews Episcopal Church in Glenmoore, PA, and transferred to Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge when he and Mary moved to Shannondell, 11 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Wayne (nee Gillespie), his son John Christopher Volk (Cynthia), his daughter Susan Wayne Volk, and grandsons Julian, Elias, and Gabriel.

The family will have a visitation for friends and family in the Cloister of the Colonies of
Washington Memorial Chapel, Route 23, Valley Forge, PA beginning at 10 am on Saturday September 14 th . A funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel, beginning at 11am, with the burial in the church cemetery after the Mass. Immediately to follow, the family invites friends to join them for a remembrance of Jack with a lunch in the Bishop White Library of the Washington Memorial Chapel.
