Obituary

John Kurtz Vondercrone, age 75, husband of Barbara Vondercrone, of Phoenixville, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023 in his residence. Born on May 19, 1947, he was a son of the late Rebecca (Kurtz) and Charles S. Vondercrone.

John grew up in Wayne and was a graduate of Radnor High School, where he was ranked #1 on the singles Tennis Team. Following graduation, he served four years in the United States Coast Guard.

At 24 he met and married Barbara Jarrett and they just celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in December. For 10 years he ran a successful real estate business in Phoenixville. John later went to work in commercial banking in Bala Cynwyd for the next 12 years before attending Maxwell Institute in his 40s to study computer programming. John finished his working career with 15 additional years in computer programming.

John had been involved in many charitable endeavors through his church, including Christmas gift drives, and Bible studies and pizza nights at the Good Samaritan Shelter. He also assisted in coaching baseball with his son at the Phoenixville Babe Ruth League. He was currently involved with weekly deliveries of food and diapers for Kate's Casa.

In his spare time, John enjoyed sailing, swimming, ping-pong, jogging, tennis, cards, chess and playing paddle ball at the beach. He enjoyed time spent with family, especially at his annual Memorial Day picnics and annual beach vacations. His proudest accomplishment was the life he and Barbara created with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, John is survived by his children: John Vondercrone and his fiancee, Lindsey Williams, of Phoenixville; Kate, wife of Dennis J. Camarda, of Phoenixville; and Kristen, wife of Gabriel Gooslin, of Phoenixville; nine grandchildren: Kayla, Jonathan, Stella, Audrina, Grant, Vienna, Violet, Sailor and Ethan; siblings: Deacon Steve (Mary Jo) Vondercrone, Sandra (Ken) Tucker and Dave (Michelle) Vondercrone; and many loved nieces and nephews.
