Obituary

John W. Yeager, age 88, husband of ZoAnne (Smiley) Yeager, of Phoenixville, PA, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Born on May 18, 1934 in Norristown, PA, he was a son of the late John F. and Ruth (Twaddell) Yeager.

John was a graduate of Phoenixville High School, and studied Agronomy at Penn State University. Since 1955, John owned and operated Yeager's Dairy Farm, transitioning to Yeager's Christmas Tree Farm in 1983.

He was a faithful member of East Vincent United Church of Christ, where he was a Deacon, served on the Consistory, and taught Sunday school. John served as past Fire Chief of Kimberton Fire Company, and continued his volunteerism with the Kimberton Fair, where he and ZoAnne met. Together they provided a lifetime of service and support to the community. He also was a former President of KYAL, where he enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play ball. Throughout the years, John was a dedicated supporter of his children and grandchildren, rarely missing special life events, performances and sporting events: baseball, softball, football, basketball, lacrosse, hockey and volleyball. Poppop, as affectionately called by his grandchildren, was never too busy to ride anyone around the farm on the Gator or tractor - it just had to be green. He was a fun-loving teaser and no one was exempt.

While farming and trees filled most of his days, Poppop loved being with his family. Nothing would make him happier than having his children and grandchildren work beside him on the farm. He always put others before himself, willing to help anyone in need. He did not wait to be asked, he just fixed it. He was a brilliant problem solver who could fix anything - the smartest person his family knew. His family sought his guidance and direction for both maintenance issues and personal counsel.

In addition to his wife of 67 years, John is survived by seven children, Sally Wosczyna, John M., husband of Susan Yeager, Linda, wife of Jamie Theurkauf, Carol, wife of Robert Kennedy, Mark, husband of Lisa Yeager, Suzanne, wife of Thomas Romano, and Katie Varner; fourteen grandchildren, Matthew (Mae), Stephanie, Shelly (Joe), Suzanne (John), Sarah, John B. (Kelli), Joe (Grace), Jeff, Erin (Andrew), Katie (Michael), Mark J., Kelly (Ryan), Thomas A. (Caleigh), and Robert (Kayla); twenty-four great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Jane, wife of John Newcomer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Ann DePaoli.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service and celebration of life on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Yeager's Farm, 1109 Western Road, Phoenixville, PA 19460 at 11:00 am, with lunch to follow.
