Joseph G. Barney, Sr., age 79, husband of Patricia L. (Greger) Barney, of Phoenixville, PA died late Thursday evening, October 24, 2013 in his home. Born in Mahanoy City, PA, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Brill) Barney. He was a graduate of the Mahanoy City High School. A veteran, Mr. Barney served for the U.S. Navy . He was a member of the St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Phoenixville. He enjoyed shooting darts and bowling at the Phoenix Lanes. He worked for many years at the Burroughs Corporation in Great Valley and Downingtown, PA. He retired in 1996.

In addition to his wife of 16 years, Mr. Barney is survived by three children: Joseph G. Barney, Jr., of New Holland, PA; Mary E., wife of John Bennett, of Colorado Springs, CO; John J., husband of Jill Rebuck, of Lititz, PA; four grandchildren; Kaitlyn Barney, Alexander Barney, Thomas Barney and Anne Barney.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at the St. Ann's Church, Main Street at Third Avenue, Phoenixville, PA on Thursday morning, October 31, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be the Rev. John J. Newns. Burial in Washington Crossing National Cemetery will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, Thursday morning at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd Street, New York, NY 10128-6804.
