Joseph H. McGown Jr., 91, departed this life on December 27, 2023. Joseph was born at home on September 14, 1932, to the late Joseph H. McGown Sr. and Margaret (Webb) McGown. He was married to the love of his life, Betty (Harrison) McGown, for over 71 years.

He was a graduate of Phoenixville High School, class of 1950. Joseph was drafted into the Army in 1953 during the Korean Conflict. After boot camp in Georgia, he was stationed in Camp Roeder in Austria for 2 years. While in the Army, he took electrical training and was responsible for communications. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal.

After his honorable discharge in 1955, Joseph worked various jobs until he began his 30-year career at Philadelphia Electric Company. He held multiple positions and worked in many different locations before landing in the Relay Department at the Limerick Power Plant. He retired in 1991. Joseph used his time in retirement to drive buses for Wolfington Bus Company. His favorite job there was taking the sports teams and band members to their special events.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Betty, daughter Diane, wife of Dennis Dixon (Honeybrook), son Todd, husband of Mary (Phoenixville), Grandsons Jason McGown (Phoenixville), Michael Layne (Phoenixville), Granddaughter Michelle Salamone (Worcester), Great-Granddaughters Natalie McGown, Adriana Salamone, Great-Grandsons Anthony Salamone, Luca Salamone, nieces, nephews and cousins. Joseph was pre-deceased by his sister, Nancy (McGown) Simmons, and a Grandson Jeffrey McGown.

Joseph was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Phoenixville. He was a proud 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge #75, a past officer of Phoenix Hose #1, a past Forest Fire Warden, a member of Valley Forge Fire Social Club, and a member of West End Fire Company. He enjoyed spending time with his family and trips to Hawaii. His love of flying included rides in a hot air balloon, a glider, various single engine planes, a Red Baron replica plane, and his favorite, parasailing over the ocean in Hawaii a few times.

There will be a visitation at the First United Methodist Church, 865 Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 9:30 am - 10:45 am. A masonic service will take place at 10:45 am, and the funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Final interment will be in the Morris Cemetery, and will be held privately for the family.
