Joseph Downing McGrath Sr.

Joseph Downing McGrath, Sr. age 84, loving husband of Joanne (McFarland) McGrath of Pottstown, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2019. Born on April 4, 1935 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Leslie L. & Alice (Richardson) McGrath. Joseph is survived by his son, Kevin D. McGrath of Limerick, PA and daughters, Stephanie (McGrath) Spellman of Morgantown, PA, Pamela (McGrath) Shaw of Snowdenville, PA and Kathleen McGrath of Pottstown, PA. Also, 12 Grandchildren and 15 Great grandchildren. Joseph was preceded in death by Doris (Karr) McGrath (wife of 5 years) and Connie Lou (Taneyhill) McGrath, wife of 47 years. Also, two sons, Joseph Downing McGrath, Jr., Rodney Mark Taneyhill and sister, Eve (McGrath) Bonaduce. Joseph was an Electrical Engineer with General Electric, Aerospace Division for 25 years and PENCO Products for 25 years. He was extremely proud of the work he did with the GE Aerospace Program. Joseph was a hardworking man and devoted member of both Cornerstone Church, Royersford, PA and Grace Assembly of God, Spring City, PA. He devoted many volunteer hours to community outreach to help those in need. Joe was a member of the Phoenix Masonic Lodge No. 75. He was an amateur radio enthusiast and member of the ARES Amateur Radio Club and Rooster Club. His handle was K3UYK. Joe was an avid outdoorsman. His hobbies included firearm and knife collecting, hunting, horseback riding, fishing, boating, woodcarving, birdwatching, trivia, reading, country music, auctions, flea markets and sunbathing. Joseph was loved by many and will be missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Grace Assembly of God Church, 1271 Bridge Street, Spring City, Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Jack A. Mason. Burial will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Pennsylvania on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society,1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or to Shriners Hospital for Children, Development Office, 3551 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140.
