Joseph F. Somers Jr. entered into eternal rest on Saturday July 23, 2022.

Born July 18, 1934 to Jospeh F. and Mary (Cavanagh) Somers, he was preceded in death by his adored wife Sue. They were blessed with six children, Colleen (the late Douglas) Marzella, Deborah (Bruno) D'Angelo, Joseph, III, Jean (Steven) Earhart, Patricia and Nicole (Michael) Finelli. Joe is also survived by 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Joe spent his entire life in the Greater Philadelphia area attending St.Denis parochial school in Havertown and West Catholic School for Boys. He was a proud member of the Championship Year Class of 1951-52 (affectionately known as West Catholic World Champions) when West Catholic triumphed in the Philadelphia Inter League Athletic Commission League winning city championships in four sports. Joe was quarterback for the football team. He attended The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania on football and ROTC scholarships. Shortly after graduation, he married Sue and the adventures began in earnest!

Football remained a passion as he was a lifelong Eagles fan and enjoyed watching both college and NFL games. His greatest passion, however, was always Sue and the kids. They met when he was sixteen and he often said "I never looked at another woman." They were a great team in every aspect…marriage, raising children, tennis, skiing, snowmobiling, travel and service to God and others.

Our family would like to thank all of the Healthcare Professionals at Paoli Hospital (specifically those serving in the ER and on 4West), and those at MainLine Health at Shannondell.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 11:00 am, at St. Eleanor Catholic Church, 647 Locust Street, Collegeville. Officiating will be Monsignor Robert Carroll. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester. Friends will be received from 10:00 am - 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph's name to The ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002, www.ALS.org/donate.
