Joseph Szimhart, 91, of Pottstown, PA died on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Manor Care-Pottstown after a brief illness. He was the husband of Helen (Puhasz) Szimhart.
He was born in Gyor, Hungary to the late Joseph and Julia (Feni) Szimhart. He emigrated from Hungary in 1951 and moved to Pottstown where he worked for many years as an electrician. He was last employed by Universal Concrete until retiring at age 89. He was a member of St. Aloysius R.C. Church and the Hungarian Sports Club near Huff’s Church, PA. Joseph was a lifelong fan of Braves baseball.
In addition to his wife of sixty-seven years, he is survived by his children: Joseph P. Szimhart and wife Becky, of Birdsboro; Jeanette H. Seitz and husband Istvan S., of Boyertown; sister, Magda Szabo and husband Sandor, of Hungary; five grandchildren: Christina Kuter, Nadia Szimhart-Lanceley and husband Felix, Deborah Ward, Ana Szimhart and Lani Szimhart; five great-grandchildren: Charles and Alexander Kuter, Leela Lanceley, Jack Ward and Hana Lanceley. There are also many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by sisters, Anna Rose Koszo and Mariska Gunyho.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Aloysius R.C. Church, Beech and Hanover Sts., (214 N. Hanover Street) Pottstown, PA 19464. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:15 AM at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the church at the above address.
