Obituary

Joseph W. Zabicki Sr., age 94, husband of the late June M. Zabicki, of Royersford, PA, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 in the Amity Place, Douglassville, PA, where he has resided for the past several years. Born on December 1, 1930 in Phoenixville, PA, he was a son of the late Julia (Bogus) and Walter Zabicki.

Mr. Zabicki was a 1949 graduate of Phoenixville High School, where he played varsity basketball and football. He worked as a tire builder for over 35 years until its closure at BF Goodrich in Oaks, and then he became the warehouse supervisor for the Opportunity Board of Montgomery County, an insulating and window company located in Mont Clare.

Mr. Zabicki grew up attending Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Phoenixville, where he served as an altar boy. After his marriage in 1954, he was a faithful 66 year member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Royersford, where he regularly attended until his move to Amity Place in 2020.

Mr. Zabicki was a PIAA official for over 50 years, officiating local high school football, baseball, and basketball games through the Ches-Mont and PAC-10 leagues. He was an avid fisherman, and he enjoyed clamming when he visited Rehoboth Beach, DE.

Mr. Zabicki is survived by six children, Joseph (Beth) Zabicki Jr., Diana Holoka, Paul (Myna) Zabicki, Patricia (the late Charles) Gambone, John Zabicki, and Jacqueline Zabicki; eight grandchildren, Richard M. Lightcap Jr., Lindsey (Daniel) Schiller, Adrienne (Russ) Gauger, Andrew (Tanya) Gumpert, Amber (Ron) Ensor, Heather Zabicki, Keith Gibbons, and Breanne Zabicki; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three children, Charles Zabicki, Stephen Zabicki, and Joan Lightcap, wife of R. Michael Lightcap; and eight siblings, Virginia Sanbe, Francis Zabicki, Anthony Zabicki, Stella Zabicki, Thomas Zabicki, Jennie McGray, Beatrice Wadsworth, and Theresa Schenck.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 212 Dayton Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460 on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the Holy Trinity Cemetery. Friends will be received from 9:45 AM-10:45 AM in the Church on Tuesday morning.
