Obituary

Joyce D. Cluley, age 81, of Lower Providence Township, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Born on October 10, 1943 in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Beulah Alice (Shaw) and Rev. Arthur Alton Dodge.

Joyce was a 1961 graduate of Easton High School, and she furthered her education at Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA. She worked as an executive assistant until her retirement, but it was the time she spent volunteering with many local organizations that she found most fulfilling.

Joyce was an active and beloved member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Oaks, PA. She was a member of the National Parks Conservation Association, where she played an integral part in the group who successfully opposed a major development project within the property of Valley Forge National Historical Park. After her work on that cause, she went on to become a member of the Lower Providence Zoning Hearing Board. She volunteered at the Bucks County Council of the Boy Scouts for over 30 years. Her works in the community with local seniors involved helping as a Visiting Angel, and advocating for those without families or a voice to ensure their care and needs were met.

Joyce is survived by three children, Cynthia Joyce Utley, wife of Patrick Utley, Andrew Paxton Cluley III, husband of Debbie Olson, and Cheryl L. Cluley, wife of William Jenkins; four grandchildren, Ashley Tedder (Eric), Derek Lee Rittenour (Amanda Williams), Keenan Jenkins, and Avery Jenkins; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Carlton S. Dodge, husband of Linda Dodge; sister-in-law, Gloria Dodge, wife of the late Wesley A. Dodge; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend her Celebration of Life service at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 126 Black Rock Road, Oaks, PA on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Jeremiah Mustered. Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM in the Church on Wednesday morning. There will be a private burial in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Zionsville, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Valley Forge Park Alliance. These tribute gifts can be made online at www.vfparkalliance.org or by mail to: Valley Forge Park Alliance, P.O. Box 117, Valley Forge, PA 19481.
