Judith A. "Judi" (Buckwalter) Bates-Mourar, age 68, of Barto, PA, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at home after a short battle with metastatic melanoma cancer. Born on October 16, 1956 in Pottstown, PA she was a lifelong resident known to many through her J.A. Bates Roofing business.
Judi was very active in the auto racing community, achieving many firsts as a female competitor. Notably, Judi was the first and presently only female Central PA 410 Sprint Car winner. Additionally, she loved the outdoors, enjoying snowmobiling in the winter and spending summer days on the lake with her family and grandchildren.
Judi was the daughter of the late Richard D. and Betty Jane Buckwalter, and sister to the late Roger A. Buckwalter and Gary J. Buckwalter.
She is survived by her loving husband Jack Mourar, daughters and sons-in-law, Ashley and Daniel Sammons, Billie Jo and Greg Wagner, and Sherri and Michael Gagnon. Judi was a proud grandmother to Ella and Shane Sammons, Ethan and Zachary Boughter, Tyler and Somer Gagnon, and great-grandmother to Jovi Jac. She is also remembered by her former husband and best friends Clifford Bates and his wife Denise, her mother-in-law Wanda Jean Mourar, along with her beloved dogs, Holly and Hunter.
She is also survived by siblings: Richard D. Jr., husband of the late Nancy Buckwalter; Bruce D. Sr., husband of Veronica Buckwalter; Sandra C., wife of the late Wilson Cooper; and Brian L., husband of Viktoria Buckwalter. She was also an Aunt and Great Aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
