Julian Anthony "Tony" Washington, 61, of Pottstown, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 5, 2014, from the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born August 28, 1952 in Bryn Mawr, PA, he is the eldest son of the late William H. Washington Sr. and living Cleo (Gaymon) Washington of Spring City, Pennsylvania.

He worked through his ailment at Bryn Mawr Hospital, catching the bus and train from Pottstown to the Mainline faithfully, until he was ordered to rest at home. He was a member of the New Beginnings Church of God and enjoyed visiting his Uncle Alfred’s church in Pottstown and praising with his sister at RDLC. Tony had a very strong, adamant relationship with God, and could be heard telling anyone who would listen about his spiritual transformation. Known by many of the young people whose lives he touched as “Uncle Tone”, he tried to counsel those with drug and alcohol problems and help them through their struggles.

He loved fishing and was a skilled commercial painter which he learned from his father. He treasured his music and sang in his falsetto voice in a few bands as a young man. His favorite
musician was gospel singer, Fred Hammond and he was an avid fan of Earth, Wind and Fire.

Tony enjoyed helping others and was an active spokesman with the American Cancer Society, encouraging others in living through the disease. Through his battle, he never once complained and never wanted pity.

He loved the movie Superman so much that he named his second son after the superhero’s father. Like superman, he fought a noble and courageous fight and remained devoted to God and his family until his final earthly bell sounded.

Julian is preceded in death by his Father, William and Brother, Mark Washington. In addition to his Mother, Tony is survived by his children, Julian Anthony Washington Jr., of Pottstown, Jetoya White, of New Castle, and Jerrell Washington, also of Pottstown; siblings, Rev. William Washington Jr., of Spring City, Victoria E. Washington, also of Spring City, and Garry, husband of Kristey Washington, of Douglassville; longtime companion, Kathy Cooper; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. His presence will be sorely missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Monday, July 14, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., Main Street at Fifth Avenue, Phoenixville. Officiating will be the Rev. Alfred Wilkerson.
