Karen A. Smith, 55, of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, in her residence. Born on December 2, 1964 in Phoenixville, PA, Karen was the daughter of Patricia (Toepel) Smith, of Royersford, PA, and the late Daniel G. Smith.

Karen received her degree in Accounting from Clemson University, Clemson, SC, and began her employment with Bechtel Power immediately after graduation. Her job had taken her all around the country, but for the past 15 years it kept Karen in the Virginia and Maryland area. This gave Karen the ability to take off from work every other Friday so she could spend the weekends with her mother, shopping and watching soap operas and college football.

Karen was a devoted supporter of the Clemson Alumni Association and the Clemson football team. She made a positive impression on her co-workers, and after her death, her family received many compliments from her colleagues and friends.

In addition to her mother, Karen is survived by her brother, Michael B. Smith, of Royersford, PA.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Cattermole - Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA. Officiating will be the Rev. Janelle L. Krais. Interment will follow in the Fernwood Cemetery. Friends will be received from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karen's name to Clemson University, Annual Giving Office, 110 Daniel Drive, Clemson, SC, 29631.
