Obituary

Karl E. Buckwalter, age 75, husband of the late Elizabeth "Betty" (Graham) Buckwalter, formerly of Pottstown, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2024 in the Gwynedd Healthcare Center, Lansdale, PA. Born on February 16, 1949 in Phoenixville, PA, he was a son of the late Paul Buckwalter and Ruth (Freece) Detwiler.

Mr. Buckwalter was a graduate of Spring-Ford High School, class of 1967. Early on in his career, he worked as a dispatcher and manager at Jones Motor Company in Spring City and West Motor Freight in Boyertown. Later in his career, he worked as a facilities manager for Duncan Petroleum Corporation in Dover, Delaware.

Mr. Buckwalter honorably served in the United States Navy from 1968 until 1972. During his time in the Navy, he was recruited to play baseball for the United States Marine Corps team. He loved fishing and being outdoors at his parents cabin in Lincoln, Delaware, where he and his family spent a lot of time in the summers. He enjoyed bowling in several local leagues, playing baseball and softball, and cheering for his Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies and Eagles. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family and grandchildren.

Mr. Buckwalter is survived by three children, Karly, wife of Eric Gehman, Ken, husband of Susan Salkowski, and Bob, husband of Danielle Salkowski; six grandchildren, Michael Salkowski, Jenna Salkowski, Brian Jr. and Shane Harmon and Ainsley and Emery Gehman; two great-grandchildren, Harper and Scarlett Salkowski; four siblings, Linda, wife of Bob Duncan, Gwen, wife of Kim Marks, Jim Detwiler, and Holly, wife of the late Michael "Mickey" Ibach; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rachelle "Shelly" Harmon. Karl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dear friend and he will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service for Karl at the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA 19468 on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the Limerick Garden of Memories, Limerick, PA. Friends will be received from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at the funeral home on Saturday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Council by visiting www.theparkinsoncouncil.org/donate or to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org/donate.
