Kate A. Mahoney, 32, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020. Born on September 16, 1987 in Harlow, United Kingdom, she was a daughter of Janet (Beniston) Mahoney, of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania and Alan Mahoney, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
After moving to the United States with her family, Kate attended Spring-Ford High School, where she graduated in 2005 as salutatorian. Kate pursued her passion of rhetoric and international affairs at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with minors in Russian and Psychology. After working as a paralegal, Kate continued her education, receiving her Juris Doctorate from Drexel University Law School. She had been employed as an attorney at Pepper Hamilton, in Philadelphia and most recently at Gordon Fournaris and Mammarella, in Wilmington.
Kate had always been an avid writer, completing her first novel while in college and participating in a number of online writing groups. Her bookcase was always full of new finds of every genre from mystery to science fiction, along with some well-worn favorites. In addition, Kate enjoyed cooking, never hesitating to try a new recipe while consistently making her signature roasted potatoes for her family members to enjoy on holidays. She was called a "crazy cat lady" by her friends and family, frequently spoiling her two cats with treats and toys. She will be remembered for her quick wit, her love of learning, and her prowess during her family's frequent marathon board game days.
In addition to her parents, Kate is survived by her siblings: Elaine J. Mahoney, of Tampa, Florida and Andrew R. Mahoney, of Atlanta, Georgia; aunts and uncles: David Beniston and his wife Phil, of Weedon, England, Susan Bradley and her husband Mike, of Capetown, South Africa and David Mahoney and his wife Lynne, of Dornoch, Scotland; and several cousins.
Memorial services will be announced for a time when family and friends can gather together.
