Obituary

Katherine C. Matthews, age 69, wife of Robert J. Matthews of Boyertown, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 9, 2022 in the Reading Hospital. Born on March 14, 1953 in Phoenixville, she was a daughter of the late Ruth (Doneberger) and Charles Lukens.

Katie was a loyal and consistent employee of Almac Clinical Trials in Souderton for 25 years, a position she held since the company began in Audubon Pa.

After moving to Earl Township, Katie loved her country home. Decorating it for all seasons with a creative touch was special to her. She loved coming home to her beautiful little farmhouse where she enjoyed cooking and looking out the window over the Manatawney Valley where she loved viewing deer in the meadow. Katie enjoyed watching cooking shows and used her passion in the kitchen to keep the fridge full and the bellies of everyone around her. Katie was especially known for her pepperoni bread, which she shared as gifts at Christmas time, a unique recipe that she kept secret only until recently.

Anyone who knew Katie was always greeted with a warm hug and a smile. Friends and family could instantly see the special sweetness that would radiate from her. She has a special unconditional love for her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She also held a special love for family members Glenn Peak, Karen Kraft, and Judy Lukens. Katie started every morning reading her prayer book at the kitchen table and ended each day preparing a delicious meal. She had an immense love of her family German Shepherds, Kochice who previously passed away, and Musashi who is missing his Mommy greatly.

Katie was blessed to have many families who loved her such as her Greshville Inn family, her BlackJax Amity family (who previously owned Brickhouse), her Almac family and her Pottstown Athletic Club family, who we all shared so many great memories with. "Family" is who Katie was, and anyone who knew her felt like part of hers.

Katie was the Co-Founder and Co-Director of Pottstown Athletic Club which would never have existed without her. She had a special love of her Catholic Faith and its traditions, all of which were mentored by her dear Aunt Pat and her California family. The reaffirmation of her faith lead her to receive her First Holy Communion in 1997.

In addition to her husband of nearly 40 years, who views his marriage as a blessing from God, Katherine is survived by her children Heather Micene, of Phoenixville, John Irwin and wife, Brenda, of Toms River, NJ, grandchildren Hayley Micene, Riley, Tommy and Joey Irwin, her brother Thomas Lukens, and her Mother-in-law Jeanette Buski, whom she loved greatly. She was preceded in death by siblings Barbara Stufflet, Sandra Peak, and David Lukens, her niece Lori Hanson, and her best friend Lisa Hines.

Relatives and friends will be received on Friday, December 16, 2022, from 8:30-9:45am at St. Ann Chapel, 604 S. Main Street, Phoenixville. A funeral mass, officiated by the Father Richard Clement of St. Columbkill Boyertown, will follow at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Katherine's name to Superior Credit Union 930 N Charlotte Street, Pottstown PA, where a fund has been established to provide annual holiday Christmas gifts for families in need.

Arrangements are being handled by the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc. Condolences may be offered online at www.PhoenixvilleFuneralHome.com.
