Kathryn R. "Kiki" (Mattis) (Hoffman) Bowen, age 95, wife of the late Frederick A. Bowen, Jr. and the late James W. Hoffman passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026 at home.
Born on June 4, 1930, in Spring City, PA, she was the daughter of the late A. Milton Mattis and Jane Lydia (Yeager) Mattis.
Kiki was a 1948 graduate of Spring City High School. She attended West Chester State Teachers College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in May of 1952. Kiki worked at Fourth Avenue Royersford Elementary from 1952 until her retirement in 1986, primarily as a First Grade Teacher.
Kiki was a long time member of the First United Church of Christ in Spring City. She spent most summers at her cabin in Waretown, NJ and spoke often of her love of the Barnegat Lighthouse, which she affectionally called "Barney". While Kiki loved the questions and laughter of children and doing crafts, her greatest love by far was reading.
While Kiki had no siblings, she spent much time with her late cousins Sara Louise "Sara Lou" Robinson and Margaret "Peggy" Schwenk and is remembered fondly by their extended family. And although Kiki had no children of her own, she was welcomed as "stepmom" to Fred Bowen's children: Frederick A. Bowen, III, husband of Ellen; Thomas G. Bowen, partner of Barbara Walters; Christine, wife of Jeff Winters; Suzanne, wife of Bill Leightcap and Kathleen Bowen, partner of Albert Hyde.
A private graveside celebration of life will be held in the near future at Saint Vincent United Church of Christ Cemetery in Spring City.
The family of Kathryn Bowen is grateful for the help and support provided by Main Line Home Care and Hospice.
