Katsuyo "Kay" Abe, age 104, wife of the late George T. Abe, of Schwenksville, PA, formerly Detroit, MI, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at home. Born on September 18, 1919 in San Francisco, CA, she was the daughter of the late Katsuji Shoji and Ritsuko Kikuchi.

Mrs. Abe attended and graduated from schools in San Francisco, CA. Born and raised in the California farming community, she married early and spent the next 74 years raising a family with George, separated only for several months during the beginning of World War II, when Mrs. Abe and her husband and family were interned at the Jerome War Relocation Center in Jerome, AR. Mrs. Abe is likely one of the last survivors of the Jerome Internment camps. Following the war, they settled in Detroit, MI, and it was there that she resided until 2011 when they moved to Pennsylvania, so they could spend their remaining years in the care of her daughter (Karen) and son-in-law (Russell), whom she loved as her own son.

Mrs. Abe held several positions of employment through the years, but with six children, her focus was primarily on her family and home. She was raised by parents who were professional chefs, and she had a passion for cooking herself. From her upbringing on the farm, she was an avid gardener, loved animals (especially dogs) and she enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing and crocheting and Western television shows (especially "Gunsmoke").

Mrs. Abe is survived by six children, Allen Abe, Genevieve Fox, Constance Parsons, Karen, wife of Russell Hamel, Louis Abe, and Margaret Carley; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson, David Fox; and three siblings, Lilli Nabeshima, Mitzi Campbell, and George Shoji.
