Kyle Douglas Freed

Kyle Douglas Freed, age 54, husband of Mi Young "Judy" Kim, of Spring City, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 28, 2017, with his beloved wife and children by his side after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 18, 1963, he was a son of Arlene (Brandenburg) Freed, of Upper Providence, PA, and the late Barry T. Freed. Kyle was a 1981 graduate of Spring-Ford High School, and had attended the former Spring City United Methodist Church. He began his volunteer career in emergency services at the age of 13, when he joined the Spring-Ford Rescue Squad, where he achieved life membership. After obtaining his Paramedic Certification, he served on Medic 99, as well as volunteered for the Spring City, Friendship, and Lower Providence Ambulance services, as well as the Friendship Fire Company in Royersford, where he also held life membership. After more than 35 years as a volunteer paramedic, Kyle was employed as an ER paramedic with Einstein Medical Center Montgomery and Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Kyle worked for McKissic Appliance, Commodore Computer, and Center City Steaks, prior to owning Phillies Steaks in Audubon for six years. He was also the owner of Kyle Freed Appliances, later renamed Silver Lining Services, in Spring City, PA. Kyle enjoyed hunting with his dad and friends at Camp Tuscarora in Mifflin County, mentoring young people in EMS, and spending time in Ocean City, NJ, New York City, and attending performances in Philadelphia. Kyle enjoyed comedy, music, and luxury cars, and had a love for the English language. He was an excellent writer, and his secret ambition was to write a novel about the humorous side of life. Kyle used to say that "Life is a people business, and you must learn how to deal with people." From dealing with the sick and injured, helping others with simple home repairs, playing Santa Claus to bring a smile to a child's face, mentoring others, or caring for his family, Kyle learned to listen and he opened up his heart to everyone he met. In his final days, he never lost his sense of humor. In addition to his wife, Kyle is survived by two children, Rose and Aaron Joon, both of Spring City, PA along with his beloved dog Lucy; three siblings, Michael Freed of Phoenixville, Kevin, husband of Nicole Freed of Pine Grove, and Gailynne, wife of Francis Ferguson of Lower Pottsgrove; two nephews, Karim and Jamiel; and many close friends, including Scott Schubert and Tommy Natoli. Mr. Freed was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Jesse and Agnes Freed and maternal grandparents, Hiram and Adele Brandenburg. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:00 am. Burial will be held privately. Friends will be received from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at the funeral home. In his memory, the "Kyle D. Freed Community Service Memorial Award" has been established at Spring-Ford High School.
