L. "Gerry" Kessler

Lewis Gerald "Gerry" Kessler, age 76, beloved husband of Doris R. (Hoffert, Bainbridge) Kessler, of Spring City, PA died early Tuesday morning, October 7th, 2014 in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Veterans Center, Spring City, PA. Born in Phoenixville, PA, he was a son of the late Lewis and Ruth (Bach) Kessler. Mr. Kessler lived in the Royersford and Spring City areas most of his life. He was a 1956 graduate of the Spring-Ford High School. A veteran of the U.S. Army he served as military police and was a personal guard of James Meredith during the civil unrest. Mr. Kessler worked for the BF Goodrich Company for over 22 years. He then worked for Superior Tube, and later as a driver for Custers Bus Company, where he drove handicapped children. He was a part time bar tender for 35 years for many restaurants and clubs in the area. He was a member of the following clubs: The Pottstown Elks, The Spring City American Legion, The Friendship Fire Company, Liberty Fire Company, the American Italian Bocce club in Royersford, the Hungarian Club in Phoenixville, the Pikeville Rod and Gun Club and the Royersford VFW. He enjoyed golfing, dancing, listening to jazz music and Frank Sinatra. He was also an avid motorcyclist, and rode across Pennsylvania in his custom trike. In addition to his wife of 19 years, Mr. Kessler is survived by one son: Mark D. Kessler, of Phoenixville, PA; two step-children: Belinda Brinton, wife of the late William Brinton, of East Earl Township; Michael L. Bainbridge, of Phoenixville, PA; four grandchildren: Hailey M. Kessler, Amanda J. Brinton, Melinda A. Fritz, April L. Brinton; two great-grandchildren: Willow J. Fritz, Brooke R. Fritz. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA on Monday evening, October 13, 2014 at 7:00PM. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received from 6:00 - 7:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Veterans Center, 1 Veterans Drive, Spring City, PA 19475.
