Obituary

LaVerne E. Evans, age 89, husband of Mary M. (Mann) Evans, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage, of Phoenixville, PA, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at home. Born on March 26, 1929 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, he was a son of the late Gomer and Verna Evans.

Mr. Evans attended St. John's Military School, received his bachelors degree from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and received law degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He served in the United States Navy as a JAG Admiralty Attorney, being stationed at Treasure Island, San Diego, Washington, D.C., and in Norfolk, VA. He retired after 25 years of active duty, having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and being awarded many medals and decorations. Following his military retirement, he continued his employment in the marine and aviation insurance industry, as well as work in telemarketing, retiring from those jobs at the age of 80. A man of habit and routine, he formed many special bonds and friendships over the years with neighbors, caregivers, and community members. A simple man in his own right, he had a love of and great knowledge of baseball.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Evans is survived by one daughter, Mary M. Evans of Voorhees, NJ.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral ceremony at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., 610 South Main Street, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 11:00 am. Officiating will be Pastor Thomas D. Church. Burial will be held privately in the Salem Cemetery, Wales, Wisconsin. Friends will be received from 10:00 am - 11:00 am Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 1235 S. Clark Street, Suite 910, Arlington, VA 22202.
