Lawrence D. Hartzell's Obituary
Lawrence (Larry) D. Hartzell, age 71, husband of JoAnn M. (Heebner) Hartzell, of Douglassville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Born on November 28, 1949 in Phoenixville, he was a son of the late Savilla M. (Penrose) and Franklin L. Hartzell.
Larry served in the United States Army from 1967 - 1970 during Vietnam, where he was a member of the 197th Infantry Brigade based out of Fort Benning, Georgia. After his discharge, Larry had a long career where he retired as a Quality Control Inspector.
He held lifetime memberships at Spring City American Legion Post 602, where he was a commander and Bar Stewart for the home association, Valley Forge Fire Company, Friendship Fire Company - Royersford, and the Royersford VFW. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Stowe and the German Club in Pottstown.
Larry enjoyed socializing with his friends, enjoyed telling war stories and stories of when he was growing up in Phoenixville and Spring City with the Hartzell boys. He enjoyed golfing, was an avid fisherman and a passionate Philadelphia sports fan. He loved to follow the Phillies and the Eagles and true to nature, had a hatred for the Dallas Cowboys.
Larry loved spending time with his family and liked his cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed watching the history channel, hoping to one day find himself, at which point, he'd stop watching.
In addition to his loving wife of 30 years, he is survived by his children: Josh T. Lindauer, of Douglassville and Tiffany R. Hartzell, of Douglassville; and siblings: Dianne, wife of Donald Blei, of North Glenn, CO, Timothe F., husband of Linda Hartzell, of Frederica, DE and Laura M., wife of John Jones, of Richlands, NC. Mr. Hartzell was preceded in death by siblings: Donald L. Hartzell and Linda Yost.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Interment with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in Larry's name to the Spring City American Legion, 25 N. Main Street, Spring City, PA 19475. Arrangements are being handled by the Cattermole - Klotzbach Funeral Home, Royersford. Condolences may be offered online at www.RoyersfordFuneralHome.com.
