Obituary

Lawrence A. "Larry" Potts Jr., age 96, husband of Joyce D. (Painter) Potts and the late Dolores (Matthews) Potts, of Phoenixville, PA, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 in the Coatesville VA Medical Center, Coatesville, PA. Born on September 30, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Helen (McAviney) and Lawrence A. Potts Sr.

Mr. Potts was a graduate of Archmere Academy in Wilmington, DE, and he received his Bachelor's degree in Accounting from LaSalle College. After completing college, he began his working career at Philadelphia Bronze and Brass during the late 1940s and early 1950s. He then went on to work for Nu-Car Carriers, Inc. out of Chester and Bryn Mawr until the mid-1970s, and then ran a janitorial company from 1975 through 1979. It was then that he joined his son at the Potts' Sunoco gas station and automotive services in Phoenixville until 2002.

He was married to Dolores (Matthews) Potts from 1950 until her passing in 1986. He married Joyce D. (Painter) Potts in 1992, celebrating 31 years of marriage. In 2002, they moved to Bethany Beach, DE for two years before settling in Prescott Valley and Yuma, AZ until 2017. They then transitioned back to Bethany Beach, DE until 2021, followed by a move to West Chester and ultimately Phoenixville in 2023.

Mr. Potts honorably served in the United States Army from 1945 until 1947. He was a family-oriented and outgoing man who was loved by everyone. Affectionately known as "Sky King", Mr. Potts earned his Private Pilot's License and owned his own Cessna during the 1970s.

He was an avid reader and traveler, and was proud to have visited places such as Hawaii, California, Spain, Italy, Ireland, as well as the more local destinations such as Stone Harbor, NJ, Wildwood, NJ, and Bethany Beach, DE.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Potts is survived by three children, Nancy Potts, Joyce Cahaley, companion of William Vogel, and Tom, husband of Katie Potts; five step-children, Rich Henke, companion of Bonnie, Jerry, husband of Donna Pasquarella, Christine, wife of Russ Williams, Donna Zielke, and Bruce Pasquarella; seven grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Karin and Catherine Potts; and three siblings, Rose Rowe, Rita Thompson, and John Potts.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., 610 Main Street, Phoenixville, PA on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester, PA. Friends will be received from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM at funeral home on Saturday morning.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Coatesville VA Medical Center Voluntary Services, 1400 Black Horse Hill Road, Coatesville, PA 19320. Checks can be made payable to "Department of VA Affairs", and please memo: Hospice.
