Lawrence E. Smith, age 95, husband of the late Ruth M. (McAfee) Smith, of Douglassville, PA, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018 in Amity Place.

Born on December 11, 1922 in Chester Springs, PA, he was a son of the late Horace and Clara (Pennypacker) Smith. In 1938 he left school to work on the family farm. He later worked for Bryncoed Farms and as Grounds Manager for Pennhurst before retiring in 1990.

He enjoyed playing Hasenpfeffer and Pinochle, Sunday afternoon get-togethers with family, hunting, fishing in Black Lake (NY), Oneida Lake (NY) and Lake Fork (TX). He also enjoyed growing sweet corn and strawberries for local sales and known for making the best scrapple in the area..

Mr. Smith is survived by Son, Ronald E. Smith (Jim Spangler) of Addison, TX; Two Daughters, Miriam (William Jr.) Madden of Townsend, DE, R. Louise (James) Fitch of Pottstown, PA; Grandchildren: Tammy and Bucky Finnegan of Townsend, DE, Mark and Natasha Fitch of Bucktown, PA; Grandson, Brett Madden of Pittsburgh, PA; Great-grandchildren, Connor and Gretchen Fitch, Brittney and PJ Finnegan; Great-great-granddaughter, Kaylee J. Finnegan; one brother, L. Ray Smith, of Linfield, PA. He was also predeceased by a sister Helen High.
