Leib Shulman, 82, of North Coventry, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Phoenixville Hospital. Born August 5, 1943, in Midland, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Vyta (Tregub) and Frank Shulman.

Leib was raised in central Ontario in a newcomer family of resilient creators, learners and survivors. Everything was considered possible. His intellectual curiosity and perseverance served him in pursuits including photography and carving, working at the family furniture store and academic and entrepreneurial endeavors. He was an avid lifelong gardener who spliced tree species, grew African violets and cacti as a teen, and built and planted bountiful ponds at his Ontario and Pennsylvania homes.

Leib graduated from the University of Western Ontario medical school in 1968 with a specialty in emergency medicine. After moving to the US in 1979, he practiced medicine in the emergency room at Good Samaritan Hospital in Pottsville, at Pennhurst Center in Spring City and through his Pottstown-based private practice.

Drawing on both professional expertise and personal encounter with illness, he embraced a holistic approach to life and medicine. He overcame cancer in the late 1970s through significant changes in diet and lifestyle - largely influenced by his involvement in the Kripalu Yoga community. Through these experiences, he cultivated compassion and a keen understanding of people that he applied to his engagement with others in work and life.

He is survived by his daughter Tamara, grandson Tobias, and siblings Ila and Pacy (Jan) and nephew Aaron. He deeply cherished his long-time companion, Sally Martin, who predeceased him on December 21, 2025.

Leib brought a dry sense of humor, ready-to-share deep knowledge across a myriad of topics and unique insights on life to each conversation. He will be missed by family and friends; may his memory be a blessing.
