Leonard Vanlandeghem's Obituary
Leonard VanLandeghem, 76, husband of Nancy J. (Frenk) VanLandeghem of Elverson, formerly of Jeffersonville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 4, 2009. Born in Upper Providence, he was the son of Dorothy (Dunlap) VanLandeghem, of Harleysville and the late Conrad VanLandeghem
Mr. VanLandeghem was a 1950 graduate of Norristown High School. He was employed as a telephone technician for Bell Telephone, AT&T, and Delaney Telecom until his retirement. He was a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers. He was also a member of the Antique Car Club of America.
He was an active member of the Elverson United Methodist Church and a former active member of the Green Tree Church of the Brethren. Leonard enjoyed bicycle riding, hiking, and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed restoring and sharing rides in his father's 1932 Ford V8. He was a very generous and family oriented person, who loved helping others. Leonard was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels in the Elverson and Honey Brook areas. He and his wife also traveled to South Carolina to help after Hurricane Hugo.
In addition to his loving wife of 49 years, and his mother, Mr. VanLandeghem is survived by two daughters, Dawn V., wife of Gary Newswanger, of Elverson, and Lynda L., wife of Steven Ballentine, of Carlisle, two sons, David S., husband of Mary Pat VanLandeghem, of Elverson, and Edward, A., husband of Karin VanLandeghem, of Conowingo, MD, seven grandchildren, Andrew, Grant, Jacob, Moriah, Kevin, Jillian, and Lucas, and three sisters, Helen, wife of William Detwiler, of Jeffersonville, Esther, wife of Henry Siegle, of Jeffersonville, and Alice, wife of Bernard Nagle, of Hatfield.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating his life at the Green Tree Church of The Brethren, 1078 Egypt Road, Oaks, Pa, on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Ed Greene, Pastor David Leiter, and Pastor William Elliott. Friends will be received from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Elverson United Methodist Church, 32 East Main Street, Elverson, PA 19520, or to Green Tree Church of the Brethren, 1078 Egypt Road, Oaks, PA 19456.
