Lola (Skip) S. Reed, MD, born in West Telford, PA on Feb. 5, 1917, daughter of Elsie (Stover) and Ira Stewart Reed, died peacefully in Westminster, MD July 24, 2017.
Dr. Reed graduated from Ursinus College in 1938, University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1942, one of five women in the entering class. She practiced pediatric medicine in Phoenixville, PA from the 1940s until her retirement in 1982. She was the first woman president of the Phoenixville Hospital Medical Staff in 1961-62.
She was active in the Pewter Collectors’ Club of America, serving as president 1975-77. As a concerned and active community citizen, she spearheaded the first day care child center, Phoenixville Area Children's Learning Center, in 1964 and the establishment of the Well-Baby Clinic in conjunction with The Visiting Nurses.
Dr. Reed received many awards, including Citizen of the Year of Chester County and, most recently, Outstanding Citizen of the Year in Schuyllkill Township in 2014. She was a 60-year member of the Phoenixville Presbyterian Church. Dr. Reed was an avid birder and environmentalist.
Dr. Reed was predeceased by her sister, Hazel (Sue) Graves, her great niece, Jessica Graves, and her long-term companion, Rachel McAvoy. She is survived by three nieces: Cynthia Saunders, Ilona Greenfelder and Lydia Steadman; nephew: George Bennett Graves; and many babies and children grown to adulthood.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 16 at 1pm at the Phoenixville Presbyterian Church.
