M. "Jane" Richards

Marion "Jane" (Borkey) Richards, age 84, wife of Chester W. "Chet" Richards, resident at Shannondell at Valley Forge in Lower Providence, PA, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014. She was a daughter of the late John F. and Helen (Sterner) Borkey. Mrs. Richards was a 1947 graduate of Germantown High School and graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicineas a Registered Nurse. She worked as a nurse in San Antonio, TX and at the Lakeside Hospital in Overland Park, Kansas. From 1970 to 1981 she worked at the Paoli Hospital. She was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Wayne where she was active in the choir. Mrs. Richards was a member of the Paoli Hospital Women's Auxiliary. In addition to her husband of 64 years, Mrs. Richards is survived by two sons, C. Brian, husband of Janet N. (Nack) Richards of Walnut Creek, CA and Jeffrey W., husband of Kelly A. (Imes) Richards of San Carlos, CA; one sister, Maribeth Bonington of South Dennis, Massachusetts. and four grandchildren, Samuel, Liza, Thomas, and Livia Richards. Mrs. Richards was also survived by her unadopted son: Thomas E. Birsch, of Paoli, PA. She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret "Peggy" Whitehead. Jane was a vivacious and jolly woman and had the gift of making people feel better about themselves. Her children would often locate her by her laugh. She was also very well-travelled. She was part of a nurses educational exchange delegation to China soon after it was reopened in 1983. She made several trips touring Europe and Australia. Once the grandchildren arrived her travels focused on seeing them in California or them visiting her in Cape Cod where she spent her summers. Jane was a success on many levels. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service in the Theater at Shannondell, 10000 Shannondell Drive, Audubon, PA 19403 on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 3PM. Officiating will be the Rev. Lillian C. Smith. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received in the theater on Friday from 2:00 - 3:00PM.
