Margaret (Collison) Custer, formerly of Lancaster, died on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Newark Manor at age 90.? She was the wife of the late Samuel K. Custer, who died in October 2002.?
Born in Philadelphia to the late Fredrick and Emma (M?ller) Collison, she was a 1935 graduate of Folcroft High School.? She also earned an accounting degree from Pierce Business School of Philadelphia in 1948.?
Mrs. Custer was a homemaker.?During World War II, she volunteered for the US Army AirCorps. 1st Interceptor Command in Philadelphia, which helped track ships or planes nearing the Northeast Coast.? For her efforts, she received an Award of Merit for over 500 hours of service.?
Mr. and Mrs. Custer were founding members of the Drexel Hill Church of the Brethren in 1953.? While there, she served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher.? They were also members of Conestoga Church of the Brethren in Leola.?
Margaret also enjoyed needlework and won awards for her pieces.? For many years she belonged to the Embroiderer's Guild of Lancaster.?
She is survived by her daughter, Janice E. Custer, of Brick, NJ; son, Jay F., husband of Sharon (Eidemiller) Custer, of Newark and grandchildren, Jason R. and Jacqueline L. Custer.? She was also preceded in death by a brother Fredrick Collison Jr.?
Her funeral service will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 AM at Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA.? Calling time is from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.?
