Margaret M. "Peg" Salinger's Obituary
Margaret M. "Peg" Salinger, 73, wife of Robert G. Salinger for 50 years, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 in Phoenixville, PA.
Peg was born in Hazelton to Bernard and Margaret (Carr) Morris. She was a graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School. Her achievements in higher education included a B.S.N. from Georgetown University and a M.S.N. in administration from Villanova University.
She had a long and distinguished career as a registered nurse. Her positions included: community health nurse for Visiting Nurses (1970-72); staff nurse at Phoenixville Hospital (1981-1985); independent contractor at Eagleville Hospital (1985-87) and Nurse Manager at Coatesville Veterans Hospital (1987-2005). She also volunteered her time and expertise at The Clinic.
Peg was a member of St. Teresa of Avila R.C. Church, Trooper, PA. In earlier years, she volunteered at many of her children's school functions and organizations in a leadership role. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and president of the Valley Forge Chapter. Participation in political campaigns was also an interest of hers. She was a member of the following: Audubon Gourmet Group, Friday Night Dance Club, Book Clubs, and Rivercrest Landscape Committee.
In retirement she and her husband traveled extensively. A notable recent trip was to Egypt just prior to the civil unrest. She was an accomplished artist and painted many scenes from her travels. She also volunteered in the reading program at Evans Elementary.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Kathryn Himsworth (Michael) of Chester Springs; Carolyn Halmy (Christopher) of Charlotte, NC; Christine Sites (Frank) of Collegeville; and James Salinger (Katharina) of Los Angeles, CA; and her grandchildren: Elizabeth, Daniel, Claire, Sophia, Kathryn, Brendan and Raymond.
Her Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 15, 2013, at 10 AM at St. Teresa of Avila R.C. Church, 1260 S. Trooper Rd., Trooper, PA 19403. Viewing will be from 8:30-9:45 AM at the church. Burial will be private for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Clinic, 143 Church St, Phoenixville, PA 19460 or the Cancer Support Community of Philadelphia by visiting www.cancersupport-phila.org
