Margery G. "Midge" Woodruff, a lifelong resident of Phoenixville, passed away on Friday afternoon at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital at the age of 86.? She was the wife of Herbert E. Woodruff. This year she and Herb celebrated 60 years of marriage.? Born in Phoenixville, she was the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Lydia (Brower) Gay. Margery was a 1939 graduate of Phoenixville High School, a 1943 graduate of West Chester State Teachers' College and a 1948 graduate of Penn State University.? She also earned a Reading Specialist Certificate from Temple University.?
She was employed as a teacher from 1943-1950 at East Pikeland Elementary, and after taking time to raise her family, completed her career as a Reading Specialist in the Phoenixville School District from 1968-1986.? Margery was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ.? Margery was a member of the Roamers Hiking Club and Phoenixville Womens Club.? She was also a member for 68 years of the Kimberton Grange.?
In addition to her husband, she is survived be her children: Kenneth L. Woodruff and his wife Kathryn, of Morrisville, PA, M. Gay Snyder and her husband Earlin L. Snyder Jr, of Phoenixville, Herbert E. Woodruff Jr. and his wife Kathleen, of Exton and Timothy S. Woodruff, of Pottstown; brothers: Rev. Richard R. Gay and his wife Averill, of Hope, AK and Thomas W. Gay Jr. and his wife Dorothy, of New Paltz, NY, eleven grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.?Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. John's U.C.C., 315 Gay St., Phoenixville, PA. Interment will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held on Friday evening at Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home, Inc., 610 S. Main Street, Phoenixville, PA from 7-9 PM.? There will be no viewing on Saturday at the church.? In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund.?
