Obituary

Marie S. (Liberatori) Desiderio, age 86, wife of the late Ralph F. "Ray" Desiderio of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024 in her residence. Born on June 14, 1937, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Helen (Gionta) and Innocenzo "James" Liberatori.

Marie spent most of her life as a homemaker, raising her family. She loved cooking, often gaining insight from cooking shows. Marie enjoyed cooking holiday meals with her sister that focused on family traditions. There was no gathering too large for Marie to contribute her culinary expertise. She passed down this art to her daughters and granddaughters who, now also love to cook.

Family was everything to Marie. She enjoyed her time as a caretaker for her granddaughters while their parents were at work and she was so happy that she was able to do this with her sister by her side. Marie was very supportive of her husband's work with his fundraising efforts of a concept he created for a Merit Awards Dinner benefiting children's oncology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Efforts included presenting an award to volunteers, staff members, Philadelphia Eagles players and coaches, who dedicated their time and professional services to children suffering from oncological diseases. Although Marie was going through a great deal herself during this event, she was also often offering emotional support to the families of many of the children who were able to benefit from the fundraising efforts.

Marie and her husband, Ray, have left a great legacy, whose foundation is based on family and their cultural roots. They were so proud the accomplishments of their daughters and now their granddaughters and would share that pride in every conversation they had. Based on this firm foundation, their family continues to carry on those traditions and values.

Marie is survived by daughters: Lisa D., wife of Patrick J. Walsh and Cathy A., wife of Thomas G. Palmer Jr.; granddaughters: Dr. Rachel (Patrick) Reilly, Michelle (Brendan) McGowan and Sara Palmer; nephew: Jim (Stacey) Tagliaferri; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Gina Marie Desiderio; sister: Rosann (Alfred) Tagliaferri; and sister-in-law: Betty Ann (Vincent) Masturzo.
