Mark M. Cackovic, DMD, age 79, husband of Patricia A. (Semic) Cackovic, of Limerick, PA died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in Parkhouse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on June 14, 1938 in Steelton, PA, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Catherine (Hren) Cackovic.
Dr. Cackovic was a graduate of Steelton High School, University of Richmond, and received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy as a dentist from 1964-1966. After leaving the Navy, Dr. Cackovic practiced dentistry until his retirement. In addition to his dental practice, Dr. Cackovic was a member of the University of Pittsburgh football staff from 1973-1980, as well as served on the board of directors of the Pitt Golden Panthers. He had many fond memories and stories of his involvement with the Pitt football program, and in particular, the 1976 season when they won the Sugar Bowl and National Championship. Dr. Cackovic was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish as well as the Croatian Fraternal Union, Lodge 13, Steelton, PA.
In addition to his high school sweetheart, his wife of 54 years, his proudest legacy was his children and grandchildren. Dr. Cackovic is survived by four children: Glenn, husband of Christine Cackovic; Jill (Cackovic), wife of Michael Chessock; Janet Cackovic; and Laura (Cackovic), wife of Keith Downing; eight grandchildren: Matthew and Katherine Cackovic; Brianna, Connor, Kyle and Rachel Chessock; and Morgan and Julia Downing.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass at St. Teresa of Calcutta R.C. Church, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville, PA on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 11:00 am. Officiating will be Rev. Paul C. Brandt. Inurnment will be held in the Limerick Garden of Memories. Friends will be received from 9:45 am - 10:45 am Tuesday at the church.
