Mary J. (Smith) DeWees, 75, wife of Victor E. DeWees, of Limerick, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 in Seasons Hospice, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. Born on December 13, 1943 in Edgerton, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Harry J. Smith and Hannah M. (Fulmer) Green.
Known as the "head cook and bottle washer," Mary was a jack of all trades who held a variety of employment positions. She was the owner of MJ's Cafe in Spring City for 2 years and for 6 years was a well known waitress at Giovanni's in Royersford. She had also been employed at Penn Supreme and Spring-Ford Middle School and was even an over the road truck driver.
She had a love for the outdoors and camping. She was an avid snowmobiler, enjoyed yearly trips home to Ohio and loved time spent at the family home in the mountains at Otter Lake. She was also a yard sale connoisseur.
Although Mary was the family disciplinarian and was always in control, she was a phenomenal mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a great love for her family and was a foster parent for many children for many years.
In addition to her loving husband of 55 years, Mary is survived by her children: James V. DeWees, of Limerick, Victoria E., wife of Harold Rubright, of Bechtelsville, Veronica E., wife of Brett Clark, of Royersford and Dante K. DeWees, of Reading; eight grandchildren: Becky, Courtney, Ryan, Dana, Shelby, Brett Jr., Brittany and Aaron; ten great-grandchildren: Jimmers, Colton, Wyatt, Russell, Madelynn, Kinley, Wade, Josalyn, Riley and Kennedy; and brother: Ronald Smith, of Antwerp, OH. She was preceded in death by her sisters: Dorothy Simmons, Elizabeth Knickerbocker and Janet Scheiber.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at the Cattermole - Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 11:00 am. Officiating will be the Rev. Sameh Shaker. Interment will follow in the Limerick Garden of Memories. Friends will be received from 6:30 - 8:00 pm Monday evening and from 10:00 - 11:00 am Tuesday morning at the funeral home.
