Obituary

Mary E. Murphy, age 74, of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2026 in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Born on November 26, 1951, in Norristown, she was a daughter of the late Margaret (Cannon) and Joseph F. Murphy.

Growing up in Bridgeport, Mary attended St. Augustine Grade School and graduated from Bishop
Kenrick High School, Class of 1969, in Norristown. She was employed as a tax analyst at Lockheed Martin in King of Prussia, PA until her retirement in June of 2015.

Mary traveled extensively all over the world, but she especially enjoyed summer vacations in Avalon, NJ, with extended family and her many dear friends. She loved attending Broadway Shows in New York City, listening to music, and enjoying good wine.

She had an extremely generous and vibrant spirit. She was incredibly brave, as she fought through her battle with cancer over the last 25 years, never letting it define her or stand in the way of living her life. She always kept a positive attitude. She loved all her pets over the years, including her current miniature poodle, Margot. But above all, she had a special love for her family.

Mary is survived by her siblings: Kathleen Sierzenski, Joseph F. (Nancy) Murphy, and Eileen (Jim) Wood; sister-in-law: Sharon Murphy; nieces: Shannon (Brian) Weed, Kate (Tom) Worrell, Kathleen (Rich) Gabriel, and Colleen (Hunter) Valentine; and great-nieces and nephews: Caitlyn and Connor Weed, Hannah, Ben, and Emma Worrell, Richie and JJ Gabriel, and Owen Valentine. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Margaret M. Murphy and James J. Murphy; and nephew: Joseph F. Murphy III.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial mass at 11:00 am, on Tuesday November 10, 2026 at St. Ann Chapel, 604 Main Street, Phoenixville. Officiating will be the Rev. Patrick J. Muka. Friends will be received from 9:00 to 10:45 AM. Interment will be Private.

Mary and her family appreciate all the compassionate care she always received, over the years, from all of the Doctors, Nurses and Aides at Penn Medicine.
